An award winning representational artist, Bruce Williamson is passionate about his craft. He is inspired by the beauty revealed in familiar objects as well as nature's own magnificence. In his distinctive "alla prima" style he uses bold brush strokes and beautiful colors to create striking renditions of people, places and objects. His paintings demonstrate strong compositions where objects in light emerge from the shadows. His portraits capture distinctively the personality of his subjects. Williamson's goal is to help others see beauty in every day life. The process of transforming an ordinary scene into something extraordinary fascinates him. In his own words giving it the right eye or helping others see as the artist does is his life long goal. Born in Oakville Ontario, Canada, his passion for art has been life long. As a youth Williamson displayed and sold numerous paintings in a family gallery. His mother was a watercolorist and her great grandfather, Sir Sanford Fleming, designed the first Canadian stamp. After collegiate studies under John Damm, Bruce went to the Art Student's League of New York to study under Robert Brackman, one of America's most sought after teachers in the world of painting. He has since broadened his studies by working under David Leffel, Greg Kreutz, Dan Gerhartz and William Kalwick Jr. As a young adult Williamson left painting to become a Priest in the Roman Catholic Church. During that time he traveled throughout Europe, spending ten years in Italy, where he was ordained at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome by Pope John Paul II. While there, at the University of St. Thomas Aquinus, he had the great opportunity to follow the remarkable journey of and to work with Mother Teresa. It was during this period abroad, studying great figures of art history that his talent as an artist was most influenced. Williamson is a sought after exhibitor as well as instructor of still like and portrait painting. He exhibits in galleries throughout the US and Italy.
